Lambda Mu Omega Chapter History
In April, 1976, Sorors Jessie M. Shaw a former President of Theta Omega and Claudette
McFarland Winstead, another member of Theta Omega, formed an interest group to begin a
second small graduate chapter in Chicago. The primary foci for this new chapter would be to
meet during the day and support the chapter objective to provide service to the community.
Interest spread quickly, resulting in an interest group called the Satellites of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Incorporated.
On March 5, 1977, Executive Director, Mrs. Ann Mitchum Davis and Supreme President, Soror
Bernice l. Sumlin officiated a chartering ceremony establishing Lambda Mu Omega Chapter as
the second Graduate Chapter in Chicago, Illinois of the Central Region having 38 phenomenal
charter members. Former Supreme President Lorraine Richardson Greene and Executive Director
Anne Mitchem Davis were present for this momentous event held at Harris YMCA of Chicago.
Other attendees included former Supreme President Loraine Richardson Greene and Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Executive Director Ann Mitchem-Davis.
